Outside Quartet, Live Jazz in Vernazza
“Jazz also reminds you that you can work things out with other people. It’s hard, but it can be done. When a group of people try to invent something together, there’s bound to be a lot of conflict. Jazz urges you to accept the decisions of others. Sometimes you lead, sometimes you follow—but you can’t give up, no matter what. It is the art of negotiating change with style. The aim of every performance is to make something out of whatever happens—to make something together and be together….”
“How Jazz Can Change Your Life”, by Winton Marsalis
Outside Quartet is a collaboration and close friendship between Mark Morale, sax tenor and soprano, Mangani Massimo on guitar, bassist Enrico Peroni and Pino Cavallaro on drums. They shared strong experiences playing with Progress Jazz Group, Randori Jazz Quartet, La Spezia Jazz Orchestra , La Spezia Jazz Combo and Monday Big Band.
The group is dedicated to the reinterpretation of jazz standards and songs in the tradition of bebop, hard bop and modal, with particular reference to the styles of John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, John Scofield, Joe Henderson and Michael Brecker, in order to revive in person and repeat the rhythmic overwhelming emotions, harmonics and solo of the great masters of jazz history, that have enchanted and made entire generations from around the world dream.
On July 16th in Vernazza the program will include pieces of the standard repertoire of jazz, hard bop and modal, by Cole Porter and Jerome Kern to Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dave Brubeck, Joe Henderson and Kenny Wheeler.0
